SOME POKER GAMES VARIATIONS: Stud Poker - A variation of the poker games in which one or more cards are dealt to each poker player face down, followed by one upcard with a betting round, more up cards and a betting round after each and then, in seven-card stud, a final downcard and a final betting round. The forms are five-card stud and seven-card stud, and sometimes six-card stud. The additional cards received can drastically change the rank of player's hands. Once the new cards are received, the poker player has another chance to bet. Seven Card Stud - There are three variations: high, low and high-low. In seven-card high, the highest ranking hand takes the pot. In seven-card low, the lowest hand wins. In seven-card high-low the poker players compete for both extremes with the highest hand and the lowest hand. Each of these hands claim for half the pot. In each variation, players receive seven cards. Texas Hold'em - This of the poker games is similar to seven-card stud. The main difference is that all poker players get just two cards face-down of their own and five cards face up in the middle of the table for everyone's use. These cards are called "community cards". Each poker player has seven cards to make up the best poker hand possible - just that the five community cards are used by all the other players as well. Omaha - In this variation of poker are dealt four cards down to each poker player, plus five cards down to the table. The game is identical to Texas Hold'em. The final hands must include exactly two of the player's four cards and three community cards. Chicago - In this of the poker games two cards are down and one is up to each player. Play is the same as seven-card stud, but whoever has the highest Spade face down pretends for half the pot. English Stud - Here the rules are similar to Seven Card Stud rules. The difference is that in this game players are dealt six cards. Before the sixth card is dealt, each player, may exchange one card. If they discard an up-card, they get a new up-card. A player may choose not to exchange. When all players have exchanged or stood, the sixth card is dealt. After the ensuing round of betting, players may make another exchange. This is followed by a final round of betting and a showdown. Lowball- Lowball is draw poker with the lowest hand winning the pot. Here each poker player is dealt five cards facedown, after which there is a betting round. Players are required to open with a bet or fold. These poker players who remain in the pot after the first betting round now have an option to improve their hand by replacing cards in their hands with new ones. This is the draw. Usually this of the poker games is played with one or more blinds, sometimes with an ante added. Some betting structures allow the big blind to be called. Other structures require the minimum open to be double the big blind. The most popular forms of lowball are ace-to-five lowball and deuce-to-seven lowball. Draw High - In Draw High there are two betting rounds, one before the draw and one after the draw. The game is played with a button and an ante. Players in turn may check, open for the minimum, or open with a raise. After the first betting round the players have the opportunity to draw new cards to replace the ones they discard. The betting limit after the draw is twice the amount of the betting limit before the draw. Some draw high poker games allow a player to open on anything. Others require the opener to have a pair of jacks or better. Double Flop Hold'em - Double flop hold'em is played in similar fashion to regular Texas hold'em with a twist. There are two boards. There is a flop, turn, and river for each board, and they are dealt at the same time. Poker players make the best hand for each board. They do not declare which board they intend to win, but their hand is evaluated only for each board. This of the poker games is often played as a split-pot game. This player who wins one board wins half the pot and the player who wins the other board wins half the pot. It can also be played where the best hand from one board wins the entire pot. Indian Poker - Every poker player is dealt either one card or 5 cards. Players do not look at their own cards. Instead, they place them on their forehead so that all the other players can see them. There is a round of betting. You are betting on what others have because you do not know what you actually hold. The player who has the highest ranking card or who has the best poker hand wins. |
